Who Muizenberg suits

Surfers, families with small children, budget stays of a week or more.

Is it safe at night?

3/5, relative to Cape Town

The beachfront and Surfer's Corner are relaxed and busy. The blocks inland behind the railway line are a different neighbourhood and should be treated as such.

What does it cost?

R · Budget

Low to mid. Best value of any beach suburb.

Airport and beach

Airport 25 to 40 min. Beach: At the door.

The safest route from the airport

Local tip

The water is around 17 to 19°C in summer, several degrees warmer than the Atlantic side, and that is the whole reason to base here. Shark spotters fly flags at the beach entrance, read them before you swim.

Safety scores are our judgement of walking around at night, not an official rating. For police-station crime figures see the SAPS crime statistics.
