Camps Bay

Twelve Apostles behind, white sand in front, one strip of restaurants facing the sunset. The postcard, priced accordingly.

Who Camps Bay suits

Short high-budget trips, honeymoons, people who will not leave the beach.

Is it safe at night?

4/5, relative to Cape Town

Low street crime, heavy private security. The risk here is the drive: Kloof Nek and Camps Bay Drive are dark and winding at night.

What does it cost?

RRRR · Top end

Highest in the city in peak season. Off-season drops are steep.

Airport and beach

Airport 30 to 50 min. Beach: At the door.

The safest route from the airport

Local tip

The wind decides your day. When the south-easter blows, Camps Bay is unusable and Clifton 4th, two minutes north and sheltered by the headland, is fine.

Safety scores are our judgement of walking around at night, not an official rating. For police-station crime figures see the SAPS crime statistics.
